Edwin Edwards Seeks Early Release From Post- Jail Supervision

Edwin Edwards Seeks Early Release From Post- Jail Supervision

Edwards is requesting an early end to his supervision period. Next a letter to the president suggesting a pardon so he can vote again before finishing the lengthy parole period that he is not that likely to live through?

(Felon Disenfranchisement is a troubling thing in general, Louisiana isn’t as bad as some states, not as good as others on how soon people get their rights back after serving their time)

Edwin Edwards Reality Show…

I can’t help it. I know I am going to watch this.

I know reality TV is terrible and staged and all but… it’s Edwin.

There are few politicians as fascinating as the felon four time governor who recently remarked that he wanted to be governor again. Which if he could run (like if Obama pardoned him), he could probably win. I would bet he would beat bobby (who is term limited and can’t run next time anyways) handily.

People love the man. Goodness knows if he was in office some of his buddies may have gotten great clean up contracts but BP would be paying out faster and more because he would have squeezed it out of them with his bare hands.

Plus his second wife was named CANDY. This one is 34 while he has daughters who are 60 and 62. I mean come on. How great will that be to watch?

And he once said the only thing that could hurt him was being caught “in bed with a dead girl or live boy.” Can you imagine what he is going to say on tv?

The shows which starts airing in March is reportedly following their efforts to have a kid and while gossiping about the show I had a rather well connected acquaintance tell me they knew she was pregnant currently. A little googling suggests that this is at least pretty widely believed though not officially confirm-able.

Obama Should Pardon Edwin Edwards

Obama should pardon Edwin. The man is old.

He is 85 and if he doesn’t get pardoned he may die before he completes his parole and prohibition and is eligible to vote again. Sure there were scandals, but Edwin was the first Louisiana governor post Reconstruction to appoint blacks and women to high positions in his administration. Edwin was involved in creating the new state constitution. Edwin increased state revenue by taxing the powerful oil interests.

Felon disenfranchisement is pretty messed up in general and I think perhaps given the things Edwin did for Louisiana I think it would be worth while for Obama to pardon him and give him the chance to vote again before he dies.

After the election, Obama doesn’t have to run again. The cost of the pardon to him would be minimal. Edwin is popular despite the time in prison.

In fact, I think a pardon could pay off. Edwin is a fundraising powerhouse and making him feel great affection for the democratic party could pay off. People will pay to eat dinner with him and that could result in a lot of cash that the state level party could use to bring us closer to a swing state.
