Is Judge Jeff Hughes Married?

While his mailer disguised to look like a newspaper talks a lot about traditional marriage, it does not appear the judge himself is married.

In 8 pages that cover his life in enormous detail, all the way back to his high school achievements (because for some reason we need to know he was MVP of his all white high school basketball team) and information about him marrying other people, there is no mention of Hughes being married himself.

There are 16 pictures of Hughes within the mailer. None of them are with a wife. There is a family picture with extended family instead. Given how hard the mailer pushes the view of Hughes as wholesome, traditional, “leave it to beaver”-esque, undoubtedly if he had a wife there would be a giant picture of the two of them looking very traditional on the front page.

My Coverage of the Louisiana Supreme Court District 5 Runoff and Jeff Hughes’ Fake Newspaper

First, I laid out how important of a decision faces voters on December 8th.

The Hughes- Guidry runoff will determine the direction of the Louisiana State Supreme Court. With Jindal’s voucher agenda being challenged and possibly headed that way, it seems crucial for the future of the state’s public education that Jindal endorsed Hughes not win.

Today I got in the mail a fake newspaper from the Hughes campaign. It is a bit amusing to me that I received it as I live in an overwhelmingly blue precinct so it seemed a bit wasteful to be sending out mailers to our precinct but Hughes’ campaign is very well funded so I guess they can afford to chase the couple dozen votes they may be able to get in the precinct.

The fake newspaper was full of fear mongering about liberals, some obvious race baiting, a strangely large number of pictures of Hughes, and a huge list of bio information about him that has nothing to do with his ability to serve on the court. The most important tidbit is that he strongly admires the decisions of Justice Thomas which to me is a resounding reason to not vote for him.

I uploaded the entire mailer to be viewed and have a separate discussion up for each of the pages.

Jeff Hughes Louisiana Supreme Court Fake Newspaper Mailer Front Page

If you want to see the Jeff Hughes State Supreme Court fake newspaper mailer I scanned, you can view the whole thing here.

The “paper” is labeled Louisiana Judicial Report. It is a publication of the Hughes campaign but with the Louisiana state seal in the top right corner it is trying pretty hard to look like an actual report and not a campaign mailer.

Jeff Hughes Supreme Court Mailer- Fake Newspaper

I got this fake newspaper for the Jeff Hughes Louisiana State Supreme Court campaign. I decided that since I wanted to write about it I would scan the whole thing. My scanner could only scan half of each page at a time so I had to reassemble them, sorry about the lines in the middle.

Articles about it to come. Whole mailer visible after the cut.  Read the rest of this entry »
